Greetings ,
Finally, we have reached that time of the year where you can all let out a big “Ahhhhh”. The kids are back in school, and the hustle and bustle of summer vacations are put to rest until next summer. The sun is shining daily in Sunriver with day time temps at 80 degrees. It’s time for all of us to think about relaxing a little, and Sunriver is the place you want to be.
Sunriver offers plenty of stress-free activities that work at lowering the blood pressure. How about renting a canoe or kayak and paddling your way to serenity along the Deschutes River? Or, hiking up to the highest mountain peak for a spiritual re-awakening to just how beautiful the world can be? For more conventional ways of de-stressing, you can opt for the quintessential spa treatments or an hour long massage—Sunset guests get discounts on massages by the way, so have one or one every day that you are here! Or, how about some quiet time with your loved ones? You can catch up and laugh over a game of cards or Trivial Pursuit. Relaxation is key to a long, healthy life so do yourself a favor and get some "me" time in.

Join Us for a Taste of the Real Old West
This month's outdoor adventure is more of an adventure in dining. We're taking you back to the days of the Old West when the ranchers from Summer Lake, Silver Lake, and Paisley pushed their cattle through the Syean Trail on to greener pastures of the Syean Marsh. The half way point for this long journey was the Cowboy Dinner Tree, a place where the chuck wagon would be waiting to serve up some buckaroo beans and biscuits to the hungry cowboys.
Today the Cowboy Dinner Tree still attracts many hungry city folk looking for a truly unique dining experience as far away as California. In fact, some city slickers from San Francisco arrive via helicopter for a chance to dine like the cowboys did. You need to make your reservations in advance and be prepared to order your dinner when you call. The choice is chicken--a whole chicken--or a really big steak--a 26-30 oz. slab of beef-- plus you get so many side dishes including salad, homemade soup, biscuits, baked potato, and a luscious homemade dessert for one really low price of $20.75 per dinner. For those of you who like to wash your dinner down with a glass of wine or a cold beer will have to do without as they do not have a liquor license on site, however, the complimentary lemonade, iced tea and coffee made up for it--kind of.
I took my in-laws, who were visiting from Seattle, to dinner there for the first time in August. It's a little bit of a drive--65 miles--so we made sure to plan some sightseeing along the way out to Silver Lake, which is 1.5 hours from Sunriver. It was well worth the drive. We came away stuffed and all had doggy bags fit for a Great Dane. It was nice because I didn't have to worry about cooking the next day due to all of the left overs. Kiddie sized versions of the humongous dinner is available at a lesser price.
While you are there make sure to schedule a buckboard ride on the old horse drawn wagon, visit the gift shop which actually offers some unique decor items and keepsakes by local artisans, and pose for a photo on the wooden horse like my hubby did. Ride 'em Cowboy!
Open June 1st - October 31st: 4pm-8:30pm Thurs, Fri, Sat and Sun
Open Nov 1st - May 31st: 4pm-8:30pm Fri, Sat and Sun
