Top Spots for Tubing in Sunriver and Central Oregon
Sledding is one of those nostalgic activities that most of us who grew up around the snow enjoyed as a child, or even for those of us who grew up in a sunny southern climate like I did, I still have the memories of going to Big Bear to play in the snow on an  occasional field trip or family getaway. When we became grown ups, sledding and tubing is often forgotten about to give way to more 'mature' snow sports like snowmobiling and skiing and snowboarding. Well, let your inner child loose and re-live the adrenaline rush. And by all means, pass on the tradition to your kids and show them that slipping out of control down a snowy slope on a bouncy piece of rubber can be so much fun!
WANOGA SNOW PARK – The new Wanoga Snow Play Area, 15 miles west of Bend on Hwy 46, the Cascade Lakes Highway. Wide, treeless & safe sledding hill with vault toilets & fire rings (bring your own firewood). Old sledding hill on Skyliner Drive is now closed. Info – 541-383-4000.
SLEDDERS HILL IN SUNRIVER – This spot made our top 5 because of the location. You can't beat being only a few minute drive or walk to a sledding hill.
MORE SLEDDING IN SUNRIVER - Follow S. Century Drive back out to Highway 97, but don't get on the highway. Instead head east onto Forest Service Road 9720. Four wheel drive is recommended since this is a snow covered gravel road.
MARKS CREEK SLED HILL - Located 28 miles northeast of Prineville off Highway 26 in the Ochoco National Forest.
SNOWBLAST TUBING PARK - Open Thursday through Sunday 10am-4pm, Mt. Bachelor ski resort has a tubing park where you don't have to hike up the hill--they'll tow you. For information and pricing, visit Mt. Bachelor's website.
