Summer will be winding down soon, so I have been busy planning those last minute weekend getaways to the many lakes around Central Oregon. It's been a hot summer, so escaping to a cool mountain lake for a day trip has been the perfect way to cool off. There are so many to visit and they all are unique in some special way. For instance, Cultus Lake, Big Lake (located outside of Sisters) and Lake Billy Chinook (between Redmond and Madras) are my favorites for when you want to go wakeboarding, jet skiing or just kick back on the boat for the day. If you are looking for something a little more peaceful to take a leisurely swim or bring your canoe or kayak on, I would recommend Sparks Lake, Little Lava Lake or Charleton Lake. Charleton is out the way and bit of a trek to get to, but odds are you'll be enjoying the sights and serenity all by yourself or with only a handful of people.
